The Santo Domingo Xenacoj Knitting Council of Guatemala are an example of strength and courage. They fight to keep Mayan fabrics as something personal and unique. Their fabrics are art, and for them the designs are a personal psychologists and a book; "The book that the colony could not burn". Since the colonization of the Mayan culture, people like weavers have been seen as inferior and many people take advantage of their knowledge. With this, cultural appropriation was created.
